Lass killed, teener wounded as motorcycle rammed tree
An 18-year old woman died after the motorcycle she was riding rammed on a mahogany tree at Brgy. Nito-an, Guimbal, Iloilo.
Hazel Jane Evalle, a resident of the nearby Igbaras town, suffered multiple injuries on the different parts of her body.
Also injured was motorcycle driver, Jan-Jan (not his real name), 16, of Brgy. Pinaopawan, Igbaras town.
Evalle and Jan-Jan were at a beach resort celebrating the birthday of her friend, Karen Ceviles.
The group was supposed to end their celebration by 9:00 p.m.
But Ceviles claimed that it was Evalle who insisted that they would spend overnight at the beach resort.
At first, Ceviles said that they wanted to have the celebration at a swimming pool but again the victim wanted to have it on a beach.
At around 11:00 in the evening of Tuesday, Evalle told another friend, Corazon Elicana, that she would just buy something.
Elicana said that she even jested Evalle about fetching the latter’s boyfriend which the victim admitted.
But after sometime, no Evalle or Jan-Jan returned to the celebrating group.
Instead, policemen informed them about what happened to their pals.
Reports said that the duo was traversing a sharp curve at Brgy. Nito-an when a dog crossed the road.
To avoid colliding with the dog, Jan-Jan maneuvered but it was too late for him to return course and he later rammed at a mahogany tree.
While Jan-Jan survived the incident, Evalle did not pull through after her body smacked at the tree.
She was declared dead on arrival at Guimbal District Hospital.
To make matters worse, it was gathered that Jan-Jan has no driver’s license.
Relatedly, another motorcycle incident occurred at around 11:00 p.m. at Brgy. Tabucan, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The victim identified as Domingo, 51, of Guzman St., Mandurriao suffered injury on his eye.
Due to the impact, he was left unconscious for a few minutes.
Reports said that he just drove a friend to the area when the incident happened.
Admitting that he was under the influence of liquor, Domingo could not what happened the event before the accident.
He was treated at the Western Visayas Medical Center.
