NFA assures enough supply of rice
SAN JOSE, Antique – The National Food Authority assured that the province has enough supply of rice.
As of latest inventory (June 18, 2010), the province has a total inventory of 176,371.01 bags of rice to include stocks from NFA warehouse, commercial traders and households to last for 33.15 days at a daily consumption rate of 5,320 bags while the NFA warehouse has a total inventory of 80,534 bags of rice to last for 15.14 days according to Gladdys Gallano, Information Officer and Administrative Officer of NFA Antique.
To maintain its buffer stock, NFA has its ongoing palay procurement program which buys palay at P17.00 a kilo with 14% moisture content, clean and dry. Such amount already includes incentives for farmers association or cooperatives.
NFA rice is already fortified with iron available in all Tindahan Natin outlets, Individualized Bigasan sa Palengke, Bigasan sa Parokya and Bigasan sa Barangay. These outlets sell NFA rice at P25.00 a kilo except for Tindahan Natin and Bigasan sa Parokya which sell rice at P18.25 for beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program/Conditional Cash Transfer program.
In the event stocks of NFA rice will fall short during the lean months, NFA Antique has stocks on standby at Iloilo warehouse of 200,000 bags. This will be withdrawn in time of inadequate supply in the province.
The NFA here is headed by Engr. Gil Ibarra. (PIA/psm)
