Man kills pal over toothbrush
What started out as a petty argument over a toothbrush between friends ended in a fatal stabbing episode Wednesday evening in Brgy. Alalasan, La Paz, Iloilo City.
Suspect Raymond Porras, 46, of the said place, and victim Antonio Fortellano, 43, of Janiuay, Iloilo, fought over the former’s missing toothbrush.
At around 8:10 p.m., Fortellano was on a drinking spree with his two other friends when the suspect arrived. Porras, who is residing in the same rented house as Fortellano, told the group that his toothbrush was missing.
Fortellano’s drinking buddy, Elmer, answered back that Porras should not accused anyone of stealing his toothbrush because it is such a cheap thing.
Fortellano told the suspect he should not accuse him because he does not get something that does not belong to him.
According to a witness, the suspect left the area but returned and stabbed the victim, who succumbed to eight stab wounds on his abdomen, armpit, and chest.
Porras fled after the incident.
At around 1 a.m. yesterday, police investigators received information that the suspect was hiding at the compound of contractor Nelson Golez in Jalandoni St., Jaro, Iloilo City.
His whereabouts was known after he called his wife and asked her to bring him clothes.
The police failed to get inside the Golez property as La Paz Police Station chief, Senior Insp. Lorinez Losaria, said they could not just enter the premises without making sure that Porras was inside.
At around 6 a.m., the suspect voluntarily surrendered to Iloilo City Councilor Plaridel Nava. Porras is presently detained at La Paz Police Station.*
