4Ps implementation in WV continues
The implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps under the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 will continue under the new administration of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
The 4Ps is the flagship program of DSWD on poverty reduction. It is a social development program that invests in human capital through the provision of conditional cash grants to poor households.
Under the program, qualified beneficiaries are pregnant women and children aged zero to 14 years old
However, beneficiaries must comply with the conditions set for them to continue receiving their cash subsidies.
These conditions are: a) pregnant women must avail of pre and post natal care and be attended during childbirth by a trained health professional; b) parents must attend responsible parenthood sessions; c) children aged zero to five years old must receive regular preventive health check-ups and vaccines; (d) children aged three to 14 years must attend day care, pre-school, elementary or high school classes at least 85 percent of the time; and e) children aged six to 14 years must receive de-worming pills twice a year.
In Western Visayas, 48,120 beneficiaries are enjoying the privileges under the 4Ps.
A total of P193.25 million has so far been released to 4Ps beneficiaries as of June 30, 2010, DSWD 6 records show.
“We hope that through this program the health and nutrition of our beneficiaries will improve by availing health check-ups, vaccines, and immunization,” Regional Director Minda Brigoli said.
There are 53 cities, including the highly-urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod and several municipalities in Western Visayas, covered by 4Ps.
These include five towns in Antique; four in Aklan; six in Capiz; two in Guimaras; 12 in Iloilo; and 24 in Negros Occidental.
