WV now free of illegal billboards: DPWH
There are no more illegal billboards in Western Visayas, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways 6.
This was confirmed by Regional Director Rolando Asis following a recent memorandum by Secretary Rogelio Singson addressed to all regional directors reiterating the enforcement of the operation “Baklas Billboards,” a report of the Philippine News Agency said.
Asis said his office is doing a continuous monitoring of billboards and signboards that may cause hazard to the public.
Under the operation “Baklas Billboards,” the DPWH 6 since the start of the campaign during the time of former Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane was able to dismantle more or less 50 billboards all over Western Visayas.
Asis said that except for the last one in Bacolod that will soon be dismantled the region is already free of billboards/signboards that are deemed dangerous especially when there are calamities such as typhoons.
“Every month we submit our monitoring report to the central office,” he said.
Singson, in his memorandum, addressed to all regional directors ordered concerned heads to “coordinate with owners and/or service providers of any billboards or signboards previously found or declared to be hazard or illegally constructed with pending demolition order.”
“The owners shall at their own expense remove or dismantle immediately all illegal billboards and structures built along national roads within the road right of way limit and outside it, ” Singson instructed, adding that district engineers shall undertake action if none is taken within 15 days.
