Iloilo PB proposes ‘paperless sessions’
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo is pushing to hold “paperless sessions” if their budgetary request would be granted.
Board Secretary Lorenzo Tubola said the board members would like their request to be included in the provincial government’s 2010 annual budget so they could purchase computers that would be used during the sessions.
Tubola said that instead of having their agenda printed out in paper and furnished to Vice Gov. Oscar “Richard” Garin, Jr. and the board members, the document can be shared through computers instead.
This way it would be more convenient, efficient and cost effective for the board members to just download their agenda from the computers that will be placed on each table at the session hall.
Tubola said he believes the “paperless session” was first introduced in the municipal council of Tigbauan.
CASH TRANSFER
Meanwhile, 4th District Board Member Ma. Shalene Palmares-Hidalgo said the conditional cash transfer that President Benigno Aquino III said would continue is a big help to the needy Filipinos.
“The president has really seen the realities of life of the Filipinos and so he would like to help those who really belong to the lowest economic strata,” she said.
Hidalgo said it is a sad fact that in this country, there are still many people who have unstable economic situations and need government support.
She further said the President would like to “walk his talk” and start from the lowest level.
The conditional cash transfer program dubbed as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development has reached all 53 local government units in Western Visayas.
Under the program, each of the three children of the beneficiary family receives P300 per month for their educational assistance and an additional P500 for their health aide per household.
Each beneficiary family receives a total of P1,400 per household per month from the program.
The DSWD through the 4Ps disbursed an amount of P198 million to the beneficiaries in Western Visayas last year. PNA
