142 farm-to-market road projects completed in Region 6: DPWH
The Department of Public Works and Highways 6 has completed 142 farm-to-market road projects in Western Visayas equivalent to 94.27 percent accomplishment, data from the agency’s monitoring section show.
The projects were funded by the Department of Agriculture in 2009 and implemented by the DPWH by virtue of a memorandum of agreement.
The DA in 2009 allotted P244 million for the construction of 146 farm-to-market roads in the region; 144 were completed, two are to be completed within the month while two are yet to be started.
Iloilo province availed of the highest number of projects with 55 amounting to P53 million; Negros Occidental, 37 projects worth P66 million; and Capiz, 28 projects at P41 million.
Meantime, Aklan and Guimaras each availed of seven projects at P27 million and P11 million, respectively.
Two projects were completed while one is yet to be implemented in Antique all worth P12 million and five projects in Bacolod City with P20 million.
The lone project in Iloilo City with an allocation of P10 million has not kicked off yet.
The DPWH 6 also completed the implementation of three projects at P3.5 million.
DPWH Regional Director Rolando Asis said these farm-to-market roads were road graveling projects to allow more coverage or lengthen the scope of the project.
However, he said all upcoming projects to be funded by new allocation will be concreted upon the order of Secretary Rogelio Singson.
Singson in his memorandum directed all DPWH regional directors “to undertake concreting of FMR projects instead of graveling/regraveling since the latter do not last long.”
“Concreting work should be done according to DPQH standards and subject to quality inspection,” he said.
To date though, Asis said that they haven’t received a word from the DA and the Department of Agrarian Reform on the new projects that will be implemented using the 2010 allocation.*PNA
