Explosives hurled anew at fishing port
Another explosion jolted the entrance gate of the Iloilo Fishing Port Complex at City Proper, Iloilo City early Sunday morning.
Reports said a boy hurled an improvised explosive device, locally-known as dalugdog, directed at the security guards of the fish port complex.
One of the security guards said the boy then sought refuge at a nearby house.
During the incident, operatives of the Iloilo City Public Safety Company were inside the complex.
When the policemen responded to the area, the grenade-thrower was nowhere in sight.
A few minutes after the security guards returned to their post, another explosion from a pillbox was heard.
Meanwhile, security guards said they could have been the targets of the explosions.
It was the third incident of pillbox hurling at the Iloilo Fishing Port Complex since August 8.
The suspects reportedly want to retaliate against the security guards who caught a teenage boy stealing something from inside the complex.
One of the security guards shot the fleeing teenager, who was hit on the back and later died at Western Visayas Medical Center.
His two companions were also arrested.
After the two incidents of explosions in the area, the IFPC management and the barangay council asked for security in the area.
But the Iloilo City Police Office has refused to post policemen in the area because the IFPC has its own security guards.
However, ICPO director Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi assured the IFPC management they will include the area in the patrol route of the Iloilo City Public Safety Company.
Basngi said they would do some revisions on their security patrol because of the recent incidents.
“I want them to talk to the people involved to thresh out the issues. If they have gripes on the management, then they should be file formal complaints,” he said.*
