Be conscious of security, Pagdilao tells pawnshops
Owners of pawnshops must observe proper security procedures at all times when transporting large amounts of money to avoid its personnel from falling victims to robbery groups, Chief Supt. Samuel D Pagdilao Jr., police regional director, said.
Pagdilao’s reminder came on the heels of last week’s heist in Pototan, Iloilo where three robbers divested the manager of M Lhuillier Pawnshop of P1.1- million that he withdrew from a nearby bank.
Reynaldo Naerga, 37, placed the money inside a backpack and boarded a pedicab going back to his office.
Pagdilao warned the public about the modus operandi in robbery that targets pawnshops, especially their employees transporting large sums of money via public transport.
He said the warning also goes to owners of similar financial institutions like money changer shops and lending corporations.
Pawnshop owners should not allow their employees to transport money without security, much less allow them to commute, Pagdilao said, as this would
expose them to greater risk of falling in the hands of crime groups.
He said that inadequate security measures do not only expose the commuting employees to risk but other innocent people who are on board public transport.*
