Trader gunned down
A businessman was gunned down in broad daylight Sunday afternoon at Jaro Plaza in Iloilo City, just a few meters away from the police station.
Police said Rex Lozada of Juntado Subdivision, Brgy. Calumpang, Molo district succumbed to five gunshot wounds.
Lozada, a fruit dealer, was collecting dues from fruit vendors when a man on board a motorcycle shot him.
The suspect left his vehicle and shot the victim in front of vendors and passers by. The area was also teeming with churchgoers and children who were playing in a nearby playground.
After killing Lozada, the assailant went back to his motorcycle and sped off.
Jaro Police Station commander, Chief Insp. Rene Lauron, said witnesses failed to identify the assassin because he was wearing a crash helmet.
Lauron said a business conflict or personal grudge could have triggered the killing.*
