City Council minority holds separate anti-dengue drive
ROXAS CITY – The minority bloc in the Roxas City Council has conducted a separate campaign against dengue fever dubbed “Oplan Dengue Alert 6 to 6.”
Councilor Teresa Almalbis said their move is not a duplication of Mayor Alan Celino’s campaign but it will help in the dissemination of information on how to prevent dengue in schools, in cooperation with the Department of Education.
Almalbis is joined by Councilors Carla Abela, Jose Agadalipe, Liga President Wilson Acervo and SK Federation President Katrina Barrios.
She said she had been coordinating with all hospitals that have treated dengue patients and with the Provincial Health Office on the number of dengue cases.
It’s time to move on and orient the children in school, Almalbis said.
The move is in relation to the prevention and control of dengue which was the content of her privilege speech but was not adopted by majority of her colleagues, she said.
Abela, Acervo and Agdalipe said they believe in the importance of information dissemination on dengue among schoolchildren.
In Capiz, 18 persons already died of dengue fever aside from the 2,392 cases reported.
Roxas City has the highest number of cases, 762 patients and 10 deaths, according to the PHO Capiz Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit.*
