New scholarship open to OFW dependents
A new scholarship program is now open for dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) whose monthly income is not more than US$ 400, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration 6 said.
OWWA Director for Western Visayas Samuel Madrid announced that they are now getting in touch with principals of various schools in the region to determine possible recipients of the OFW-Dependent Scholarship Program.
The program kicked off this year with Western Visayas given 72 slots or 12 slots for every province, he added.
Madrid said that the only requirement is for applicants to pass the entrance examination of the state college or universities where they intend to enroll.
Also their parents have to be OWWA members but the monthly income must not exceed US $ 400.
The scholarship has no maintaining grade although it is encouraged that recipients will pursue courses where the demand is high like science and technology courses.
Those who can qualify for the scholarship is entitled to a P10, 000 assistance per semester or P20, 000 annually.*PNA
