Dengue cases in Capiz start to subside – PHO
ROXAS CITY – Dengue cases in Capiz have started to subside, according to the data of Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit of the Provincial Health Office.
Cases monitored from August 22 to 28 were only 178, from 235 in August 15 to 21. In August 8 to 14, cases were still at 231 while on August 1 to 7, 367.
Although in June only 128 cases were reported, the number increased to 896 in July, and 1,001 in August.
Fatalities reached 18 while patients totaled 2,942, of which Roxas City has 851 cases and 10 deaths. The latest fatality was a three-year-old boy from Brgy. Burgos, Roxas City.
The following are the number of cases in each town: Dao, 214; Pontevedra, 154; Panay, 147; President Roxas, 123; Pilar, 115; Panitan, 140; Dumalag, 116;
Panay, 147; Maayon, 119; Cuartero, 85; Mambusao, 75; Sigma, 77; Jamindan, 57; Dumarao, 70; Ivisan, 76; Tapaz, 38; and Sapian, 35.
Earlier, the provincial government launched the “Oplan Kontra Dengue” after Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. declared a state of calamity in the province.
The declaration allowed the provincial government to use part of its P34-million calamity fund to assist indigent dengue patients and finance dengue-control measures.
The Roxas City government also launched “Oplan Patay Lamok,” an information campaign and clean-up drive against dengue.
The minority bloc at the City Council led by Councilor Teresa Almalbis also started the Dengue Alert 6 to 6, an information campaign with the Department of Education for school children.
