2 Iloilo towns, 15 other LGUs establish SWD situationers
The Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 has commended the 17 Local Government Units in Western Visayas that have established their respective SWD situationers.
These LGUs are Maasin and Lambunao in Iloilo Province; Bugasong, Patnongon and Laua-an in Antique; Ivisan, Maayon, Dumalag, Pilar, Tapaz and Panay in Capiz; Pontevedra and Hinobaan in Negros Occidental; Libacao, Ibajay and Tangalan in Aklan Province; and Jordan in Guimaras.
“Establishing a situationer is one tough job for municipal and city social welfare and development officers because of the tedious work that it requires. We commend these LGUs for having social welfare and development situationers,” DSWD 6 Regional Director Minda Brigoli said.
Brigoli said while establishing a SWD situationer is tiresome on the part of local social welfare and development offices, its gains can be appreciated.
“Only LGUs that have the clear picture of their situation would be able to respond more effectively to the concerns in their locality, particularly on social protection,” Brigoli said.
Brigoli called on other LGUs to take seriously the need to establish a SWD situationer.
Out of the 133 LGUs all over Western Visayas, 87 percent have yet to come up with their SWD situationers.
“We can only be perceived effective if our resources reach the real poor and the really needy. The SWD Situationer will be one great help to ensure that they are responding to the concerns in their respective municipalities,” Brigoli said.*
