Ilonggos warned against animal bites
The Iloilo City Health Office has reminded the public to be wary of animal bites as these could bring rabies.
City Health Officer Urminico Baronda said that rabies has been a health problem caused mostly by rabid and stray dogs and cats.
Baronda said that animal bite victims can proceed to the Sto. Rosario Animal Bite Center in Fort San Pedro for proper treatment. It has doctors and nurses trained to treat victims of animal bites.
Patients can ask for medical help from Dr. Dwanie Conlu at the animal bite center, while city anti-rabies coordinator, Dr. Maila Buyco is on official leave.
Sto. Rosario Animal Bite Center, the only one in Iloilo City, has already treated 767 victims of dog bites, and 130 victims of cat bites – all with rabies.
Earlier, the City Government had impounded 135 dogs in an effort to prevent the spread of deadly rabies virus from dog bites.
September 28 is set as World Rabies Day.*
