Millaro: Angan ordered cutting of trees
ROXAS CITY – Senior Supt. Mario Millaro, deputy director for operation of Capiz Police Provincial Office, has confirmed that former provincial police director Josephus Angan ordered the cutting of trees around the CPPO compound in Camp Apil here.
Millaro said this is because Angan feared that the mahogany and gmelima trees could damage the headquarters when typhoon comes.
Ealier, Chief Insp. Danilo Araquel of the CPPO had denied involvement in the cutting of trees.
“I’m innocent,” Araquel told The News Today, after he was implicated in the cutting of 15 mahogany and gmelina trees estimated to have totaled 2,000 board feet.
Senior Supt. Renato Gumban, Capiz police director, had revealed that those responsible for the cutting of trees were Araquel and Millaro.
Gumban had warned the culprits that they will face a 90-day suspension and demotion.
For his part, Araquel said earlier he is set to retire next year that he wants to avoid involvement in the case.*
