Capiz gears for tourism week
ROXAS CITY – Various tourism-related activities have been lined up by the Provincial Tourism Office in line with the Provincial Tourism Week from September 24 to 30.
The celebration, themed “Tourism and Biodiversity,” aims to boost the local tourism industry and raise public awareness on environmental protection.
September is also observed annually as National Clean-Up Month.
Tourism Regional Director Edwin Trompeta and Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. have been invited to attend the opening day activities which include the 5th Provincial Convention of Hotel and Restaurant Management/Tourism Teachers and Students and WOW Capiz Photo Exhibit.
The convention will be joined by about 300 participants from Iloilo, Aklan and Capiz schools offering HRM and tourism-related courses.
Also included in the celebration are Pasundayag sa Baybayon, cooking contest, Panay River and Baybay Beach Clean Up, Trekking/Hiking and Tree Planting.
A forum on Tourism and Biodiversity will be held on September 27 at the Provincial Capitol Hall of Governors here.
Another forum on Tourism and Cultural Awareness will be conducted by the PTO from September 28 to 30 in some schools in the city and municipalities.
The provincial government will also launch during the celebration a “House of Wellness” that will feature the traditional Filipino massage called “hilot” at the Dungog Indigenous People’s (IP) Village in the Villareal Stadium here.
Two IP houses will be used for the traditional massage service.
The celebration will end with a sundown cultural performances dubbed “Pahigbuk” on September 30 at the Capiz Provincial Park.
In 2008, a resolution was approved by the Capiz Provincial Board designating the last week of September as Provincial Tourism Week to develop tourism awareness among Capiceños.*PIA
