Search for cleanest, greenest town starts
ROXAS CITY – The 2010 provincial search for the cleanest and greenest town in Capiz has started.
While the national and regional search for the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran already ended years ago, Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco insisted for the sustainability of the program.
Tanco said the program implemented for nearly two decades now has contributed much to the community’s involvement, particularly in gearing towards food sufficiency, cleanliness and sanitation.
In fact, the provincial government has been setting aside funds for the conduct of provincial evaluation and for the winning local government units.
Annually, a P150,000 prize and a trophy is given to the champion in the GPK search, while a P125,000 cash is given to the second place; P100,000, third; P75,000, fourth; P50,000, fifth; and P25,000, sixth.
A P10,000 cash award and trophy will also be given to the remaining 10 towns that will be included in the consolation prizes.
The criteria for this year’s search include general cleanliness, maintenance of healthy facilities and environment-friendly practices, support programs of the local government units to the clean and green program, and community mobilization, among others.
Chaired by the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Capiz headed by Provincial Director Helen Mestidio, the Provincial Search committee is composed of representatives from the Department of Education, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Provincial Health Office, Philippine Information Agency, Office of the Governor, and REACT Philippines, representing the non-government organizations.*PIA
