DOST offers 2011 S&T undergrad scholarships
The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) announces the opening of the Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarships for 2011.
The slots will be awarded to qualified applicants who wish to pursue priority fields of study in science, mathematics and engineering courses.
The scholarship grant may be availed through Republic 7687 Scholarship and the Merit Scholarship Program.
RA 7687 is designed for poor but bright students who belong to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set of values of certain indicators as approved by the Advisory Committee on the S & T Scholarships.
On the other hand, those who have higher family income may apply on Merit Scholarship. Applicants under the Merit category are required to pay a non-refundable test fee of P200.
“Qualified to apply for the scholarship are high school graduating students (or high school graduates who have not enrolled in college) who belong to the upper five percent of the graduating class, must be natural-born Filipino citizen, must be resident of the municipality/district for the last four years, of good moral character, of good health, and must have no pending application for resident/immigrant status in any foreign country,” said a DOST-Capiz news release.
Application forms are available at DOST Regional Office, Magsaysay Village, La Paz in Iloilo City; Capiz Provincial S & T Office at Capiz State University main campus compound here or can be downloaded at www.seig.dost.gov.ph.
Selection of DOST scholars is through a written competitive examination which will be held on Nov. 21, 2010.
Successful examinees will enjoy the following benefits: tuition and other school fees not to exceed P6,000/semester/term; allowance for prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies at P5,000 for first semester of first year only; outright grant for prescribed military science/PE uniform (first year only); free transportation for one economy-class, round-trip fare between the scholar’s permanent residence and place of study on reimbursement basis; and group health and accident insurance.
Other benefts are monthly allowance of not more than P5,000 depending on the awardee’s scholarship category and a post-graduation clothing allowance of P1,000 (for full scholars only).
Deadline for filing of application is Oct. 8, 2010.
