NFA sells rice at P23.50 per kilo
ROXAS CITY – A limited volume of regular milled and iron fortified rice (IFR) was sold by the National Food Authority in Capiz at P23.50 per kilogram in line with its 38th anniversary celebration from September 20 to 24.
NFA Capiz Public Information Officer Jose Davila Jr. said the each customer were allowed to buy a maximum of five kilograms at the NFA warehouse in Brgy. Bolo here.
The NFA Capiz employees also held a program on September 24.
Board Member James Magbanua, regional president of Grains Retailers Confederation and Provincial Farmers Action Council Chairman Aladino Leccio were invited to the program.
The celebration also included a cooking demonstration and a taste test of IFR which turns grayish when cooked but has more nutritional values because of the added iron.
The IFR is mandated under Republic Act 8976 to address the serious problem on Micronutrient Malnutrition. The micronutrients referred comprise of Vitamin A, Iron and Iodine.
NFA started as National Grains Authority through Presidential Decree No. 4 dated Sept. 26, 1972 with the mission of promoting the integrated growth and development of the grains industry covering rice, corn, feed grains and other grains like sorghum, mongo, and peanut.
In 1981, P.D. No. 1770 reconstituted the NGA into what is now the NFA with a widened social responsibilities and commodity coverage.*PIA
