GIOs, HROs to attend writing seminar
Government information officers and some human resource officers will participate in a three-day seminar-workshop on strategic communications/crisis communication planning, writing on disaster risk management, media relations and message development on October 12 to 14, at the Westown Hotel, Smallville in Iloilo City.
Philippine Information Agency 6 Director Janet Mesa said the training has been requested by the IOs who feel they need inputs to be able to respond to the call for government transparency and effectiveness through information and communication.
The participating IOs/HROs will come from the different associations of Government Information Officers of national government agencies and local government units in the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras and Negros Occidental.
The seminar will also tackle journalistic writing to hone the writing skills of the IOs in effective news and feature writing.
Mesa said writing on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management is also included because of the need for IOs to be able to communicate the changing perspectives on dealing with disasters, especially in the community level.
The modules on Media and Public Relations will offer the participants the basic principles and approaches in dealing with the media as well as the clientele, while that of Message Development will teach the IOs how to effectively develop messages for various communications strategies.
A short overview of Media Literacy will also be part of the three-day live-out seminar.
Resource persons will include Prof. Allen V. Del Carmen, Prof. Babbeth F. Vargas, Fr. Esperidion Celis, Atty. Janet Mesa, and Prof. Donne Jone Sodusta.*
