Launch of health services for children in Capiz set
ROXAS CITY – The province of Capiz will launch the second round of the Garantisadong Pambata program through its Inter-Local Health Zones.
Information Officer Jeoffry Espiritu of the Provincial Health Office said the program will start in the five inter-local health zones Capiz – in Jamindan, Tapaz, Dumarao, Pontevedra and Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.
The week-long health activities in Capiz in line with the program will be held from October 11 to 15.
All health service providers, including the needed medical supplies and other materials are already in place for the health event.
Garantisadong Pambata, which is a partnership program of the Department of Health and the Local Government units including other government and non-government organizations, is a campaign to support various health programs to reduce childhood illnesses and deaths by promoting positive child care behaviors.
The program ensures that all children below 5 years old receive health services needed by them to be healthy.
Included in the health services during the Garantisadong Pambata are the Vitamin A capsule supplementation to all 12 to 59 month old children, catch-up immunization for children who missed the routine immunization like BCG, DPT, OPV and measles, and distribution of iron-supplements to infants and pregnant women.
During the activity, health workers will likewise conduct classes to promote positive caregiving behaviors such as exclusive breastfeeding of infants from 0-6 months old, feeding infant micronutrient rich complementary food starting 6 months old, using iodized salt daily, buying and eating fortified foods, brushing teeth properly and regularly, letting children play safe toys, and no smoking in front of preschoolers.
