Iturriaga is new BFP 6 chief
Senior Supt. Eleuterio Iturriaga will assume as regional director of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Western Visayas effective this week, replacing Senior Supt. Ma. Sofia Mendoza, who has been assigned to the BFP Central Office.
Iturriaga, an Ilonggo, was previously assigned to Region 10.
He said with his retirement up soon, he prefers to spend his remaining time with the BFP in Iloilo City.
Iturriaga, who met with Iloilo City Major Jed Patrick Mabilog in a courtesy call Monday, was requested by the mayor to act on the 80 fire permits of establishments pending for approval by the BFP.
The pending permits could have something to do with the lack of Fire and Life Safety Assessment Report (FALAR) being required by the BFP.
Business establishments have pushed for the suspension of the FALAR requirement.
FALAR is one of the requirements for the issuance of Fire Safety Inspection Certificates needed for business permits of establishments with occupancy of at least 50 persons.
It is a documentation on the periodic maintenance and upkeep of fire and life safety features of the facility.*
