Continue anti-dengue drive, PHO chief urges Capiceños
ROXAS CITY – A health official has urged Capiceños not to be complacent despite the continuous downtrend of dengue cases in Capiz.
Provincial Health Officer Samuel Delfin said that while there is a dramatic weekly decrease of dengue cases in Capiz, the practice of environmental sanitation and cleanliness to stop the spread of dengue carrying mosquitoes should continue.
“Let us not be complacent with the continued decrease in the dengue cases, instead let us continue to work hard for a clean environment,” Delfin said.
Records from the Provincial Health Office show the month of August this year registered a significant increase in dengue cases that reached 1,059 which prompted the provincial government to put the entire province of Capiz under a state of calamity.
Delfin said the PHO is providing a weekly report to Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. regarding the dengue situation in the province for the latter to decide or make recommendation for the possible lifting of the earlier declaration.
He said the prevention measures against dengue should not only be done during the La Niña or rainy season, but throughout the year.
Delfin reiterated the Department of Health’s 4-S campaign against dengue which includes: Search and destroy all mosquito breeding sites, Seek early consultation once dengue is suspected, wear Self-protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites, and Say no to indiscriminate fogging, because there are certain conditions that should be observed during fogging operation.
The people’s support and cooperation remains one of the most effective weapons in the fight against the dreaded dengue, he added.*PIA
