‘Upward trend in PSE reflects investor trust’
MANILA – The spate of rallies in the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) during the past few weeks reflects the confidence investors have in the country’s economy, PSE president and chief executive officer Val Antonio Suarez said.
“The gains of the stock market continue to mirror investor confidence as affirmed by our ranking among Asian markets. Year to date, our index has gained 1,234.19 points or an increase of 40.43 percent, a clear signal of support to the country and its economy,” he said.
Suarez made this statement following PSEi’s historic run last Oct. 22 when it hit the 4,286.87 mark during the course of the day’s trading.
This is 37.70 points higher than Thursday’s 4,249.17 level.
Value turnover last Friday stood at P5.07 billion.
The PSE is the country’s only stock exchange with 250 listed firms and 132 active trading participants.*PNA
