Physical injuries, theft top Capiz crimes roster
ROXAS CITY – Physical injuries, theft and robbery are the top three index crimes in Capiz that were recorded by the Philippine National Police in the past 10 months.
Capiz Police Deputy Provincial Director Mario Millaro disclosed during the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting that physical injuries contributed 30 percent of the total index crimes in the province from January to October this year.
“It is followed by theft and robbery registered at 24 percent and 18 percent, respectively,” he said, adding that murder was noted at 11 percent.
Carnapping was at nine percent; homicide, six percent; and cattle rusting, two percent.
Millaro said of the total 967 crime volume during the period, 699 were index crimes and 268 were non-index crime.
Based on CPPO records, the first five months of the current year registered the highest crime volume.
“The peak of the crime volume was noted in May which is 121 with a crime rate of 17.24, Millaro said, adding that the said month was also the time of the national and local elections.
The other months with high crime volume include March, April, February and January with a crime rate of 16.25 percent, 15.39 percent, 15.1 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
Some PPOC members explained that during the first five months of the year, which was part of the campaign period, more Capiceños were into drinking sprees which maybe the reason for the high incidence of physical injuries.*PIA
