Caves of Capiz seen as potential attractions
ROXAS CITY – Capiz boasts a number of caves that could become potential tourism attractions of the province.
Most prominent of which are the Suhot Caves in Dumalag, the Suhoton Cave in Jamindan, the Balisong Cave and several others in Pilar, and Quipot Cave in Mambusao.
According to the Capiz Provincial Press Bureau, aside from being the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines” and the ”Garden Center of Panay,” Capiz is also famous for its “enchanting and alluring caves, natural wonders that will surely captivate tourists thus, giving more flesh to Capiz’s catchword “Captivating Capiz.”
CPPB Chief Edward Basilonia said the potentials of caves, being the natural wonder of Capiz, must be maximized for tourists and natives to appreciate them.
Less-visited places like Capiz should work in promoting their tourism potentials based on their natural wealth, he said.
Former City Tourism Officer Rodolfo “Bong” Maestro had earlier related what he had learned from a tourism summit.
The summit participants noted that since about 60 percent of Panay visitors usually proceed to Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan because of its sugary and white sand, the best that Capiz can do is to channel its efforts towards promoting its caves and focus on its agro-seafood tourism project.
Maestro, however, said the classification and inventory of caves have yet to be done as doing so would cost millions of pesos.*
