‘Dagoy’ needs new costume
Dinagyang’s mascot, Dagoy, needs a new costume, five years after its maiden appearance in the festival.
A project called “Dressing Up Dagoy and Costuming the Mascot” for both dolls and live mascot has been launched by the City Tourism and Development Office to make a dashing and more debonair Dagoy.
The CTDO said that while the dressing up of Dagoy dolls has been done the past two years, the mascot’s costume has not changed since 2005.
The project is meant to promote Dinagyang Festival with the representation of Dagoy; improve the appearance of Dagoy as a festival icon; provide local artists medium and venue to showcase their talent and skills; and to add color to the annual celebration.
For this year, the project shall be made up of two separate activities, which are costume designing contest for the mascot and costume making for the Dagoy dolls.
The contest is open to all Ilonggo artists who shall submit the design sketch or blueprint indicating the materials, colors and other specs in a 1/2 size illustration board (portrait orientation).
The entries will be judged based on design (creativity, color combination/harmony), visual impact, appropriateness/wearability, and use of indigenous material.
A total of 20 entries shall vie for the first prize of P5,000; second prize, P3,000; third prize, P2,000; and P500 each for the other finalists.
Entry forms may be secured from and submitted to CTDO, Lee Chuan Dinagyang Lounge, Freedom Grandstand, J.M. Basa Street, Iloilo City.
Participants may also visit the CTDO booth at SM City Iloilo and Robinsons Place Iloilo.
Elimination rounds for the dressing up demonstration and contest will be held at the following venues: Fountain Area of Robinsons Place Iloilo on Dec. 26, 2010 and Jan. 9, 2011; and SM City Iloilo Event Center on Jan. 2 and 16, 2011, starting 10am.
Deadline for the submission of entries is at 1 p.m. of every elimination day. Pre-final judging for the elimination round shall start immediately at the venue. Results of the two elimination rounds at each venue shall be consolidated and the top 10 shall move on to the final judging.
Final judging will be held on Jan. 17, 2011, at Robinsons Place Iloilo at 10 a.m. and SM City Iloilo at 12 noon.*
