Old ammo for machine gun found
Several pieces of ammunition for .50 caliber anti-aircraft machine gun were found Monday afternoon at a construction site in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City.
Reports said construction workers of Megaworld Corp. unearthed 20 pieces of ammunition and three boxes in the area, which used to be the Iloilo City airport.
Members of the Iloilo City Police Office Explosives and Ordnance Division responded and took custody of the ammunition.
Senior Police Officer 1 John Meneses said the ammunition could have been buried in the area for more than two decades already.
“They were already rusty and with molds. The ammo’s primer were already damp,” he said, adding that the possibility is remote that these will explode.
Still, Meneses said utmost care in handling the ammunition is needed because it is possible that these will spark when exposed to heat.
The EOD personnel will schedule their detonation soon.*JPR
