Alim vows to go after anti-smoking violators
Iloilo City Councilor Joshua Alim has vowed to go after violators of the city’s anti-smoking campaign – whether he or she is a top government official, police or military, or an influential businessmen.
“I don’t give a damn whoever will be apprehended and fined,” said Alim,
chairperson of the Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force, following their week-long exhibits and counseling at Robinsons Place Iloilo e to show to the public the evils of smoking.
A culminating activity was held on Monday to show appreciation to volunteers and city government officials who are helping the campaign.
Alim said he is ready and capable to face violators.
The enforcement of Regulation Ordinance 2006-150, otherwise known as The Comprehensive Anti-smoking Ordinance of Iloilo City, is expected to mobilize all the city residents and inform them on the ills of tobacco smoke and the many diseases it may carry.
Aside from drivers of utility transport, the ICAST also zeroes in on students who participate in smoking sessions near their schools.
Shopping malls, restaurants, bars, hotels and other public places are not spared from the anti-smoking drive, Alim said.
He said his advocacy against smoking has drawn cooperation from volunteers of various groups such as the Bantay Bayan, barangay officials, and the media.*PNA
