DepEd encourages pre-enrolment starting Jan.
The Department of Education (DepEd) in Iloilo province is encouraging incoming pre-school and elementary pupils to pre-enroll starting January.
Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Raymundo Lapating said they have come up with a pre-enrollment program because some students in the previous years have failed to enroll on time.
Lapating said that pre-enrollment is one way to assess the number of students enrolled in public schools to avoid overcrowding.
In case there will be a problem on accommodation, particularly in school buildings, rooms, chairs, tables, books and teachers, Lapating said the schools can immediately look for alternative solutions to the problem.
“We want to increase the participation rate of the children. Students have so many advantages if they could enroll earlier. We want them to be prepared for next school year and to avoid rush during enrollment,” he said.
Pre-School
Lapating said they are also requiring parents to enroll their five-year-old children in pre-school as one of the prerequisites before entering Grade 1.
Five-year-old children who have finished their pre-school education could already enroll in Grade 1.
Lapating also said they want children to be taught at an early age so that they will be equipped with advanced knowledge before entering elementary school.*MGC
