LTO surpasses P12.8-B revenue target
MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has surpassed its P12.8 billion target collection this year with generated revenues amounting to P13.2 billion.
LTO Chief Virginia Torres attributed the agency’s feat attained as early as September to the prudent and efficient collection methods as well as the full cooperation of their district and regional offices throughout the country.
“We could not have attained our objectives without the full cooperation of our personnel in the entire country and this also reflects the kind of inspiration that the leadership of President Benigno Aquino III has been giving to us,” Torres said.
Torres said the P13.2 billion was up by 3.28 per cent over the original target.
Of the said figure, the National Capital Region (NCR) which has a target of P4.314 billion has managed to collect P4.576 billion or a 6.06 per cent more than its actual target.
But the LTO chief said percentage wise, it is the LTO Central Office that registered the highest increase because out of its target of P285.5 million, it succeeded in collecting P327.652 million or an increase of 14.76 percent of its actual target.
Torres also reported that there were a total of 6.614 million vehicles that were registered in the country during the same period while there were 4.217 million licenses and permits that were issued and released.
As far as law enforcement is concerned, the LTO also made a total of 750,127 apprehensions nationwide, while of the seven bus companies that figured in accidents in Metro Manila alone, some 1,176 drivers and operators were required to attend seminars on traffic safety management to prevent similar incidents.
Also, 42,245 public and private vehicle drivers in Metro Manila were also all required to take the seminar on road safety at the LTO Road safety Training Center before they were allowed to retrieve their confiscated driver’s licenses.
This developed as various stakeholders and industry players at the LTO have reiterated their support and lauded Torres for her efficient handling and leadership of the agency.
Among those that expressed their support is Private Emission and Testing Center Owners Association (PETCOA), a group that advocates clean air and a green environment headed by Tony Halili.
In a statement, Halili thanked Torres for her no-nonsense campaign to rid their ranks of unscrupulous smoke testing operators who are engaged in the issuance of fake emission test certificates.
“We are happy with the performance of Assistant Secretary Torres because she has been showing the kind of dedicated leadership which we badly need in order to restore the image of LTO as a people-friendly and client responsive agency,” Halili said.
He added that they will continue to support her despite efforts by some groups to undermine her integrity with adverse publicities, such as by linking her to the controversial intra-corporate dispute that has been hounding Stradcom Corp., the agency’s IT provider.*PNA
