Mabilog wants MIWD to start bulk water bid soon
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has urged the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) to start the bidding for its bulk water supply project before the year ends.
The bulk water supply project is expected to provide some 30,000 cubic meters of water to consumers in more than 130,000 households in the city and in other towns.
It was earlier reported that the bidding has been scheduled in September and the construction, to start by December as the project is expected to be completed in June next year.
The MIWD will implement a bulk water supply project through a competitive bidding which involves the delivery of bulk water by third party suppliers on a specified water quality and quantity standards for a period of 10 years.
The water supply will be injected directly to MIWD’s existing 200mm diameter line at areas specified at a minimum pressure of 60 pounds per square inch at any given time.
The supplier will initially deliver to MIWD potable water at a minimum volume of 2,000 cubic meters per day and at a required flow rate of 84 to 124 cubic meters per hour.
The MIWD management had earlier said they intend to put in an additional 20,000 cubic meters of water daily from the project to augment its current supply.
It is servicing the water needs of households in Metro Iloilo and in the municipalities of Maasin, Cabatuan, Sta Barbara, Pavia, San Miquel, Oton, and Leganes.
It has around 33,000 water service connections.
The MIWD management had earlier admitted the water supply coming from the Maasin Water shed is not enough and it is providing water to only 20 percent of its city consumers. The rest are relying mostly on ground wells and water delivery services.
Its main water source is the Tigum River in Maasin, Iloilo.*NLG with reports from PNA
