Barangay halls must sit on gov't properties
City Mayor Jerry Treñas requested barangay officials asking for infrastructure projects from the city government that they must place the proposed projects in government property. This is to avoid conflict in the future.
Treñas's statement was in relation to the recent demolition of the barangay hall in Barangay Kasing-Kasing in Molo. The demolition was based on the order of the Ombudsman for the barangay to vacate the property.
He said the barangay hall is situated on a private property, thus the owner sought relief from the Ombudsman for evicting the barangay hall. The chief executive did not name the property owner.
"They have to make sure the barangay hall or any government funded projects for the use of the barangay must occupy a government property. The barangay officials were forced to vacate the place because of the Ombudman's order and there was no agreement from the property owner to donate or allow the barangay to use the property," said Treñas.
With the demolition of the barangay hall, officials must find a temporary place to accommodate them if they have sessions or any related activities. It was not known whether the case in Kasing-Kasing is the first to be recorded in the city.
