Renewable energy investors in Iloilo today for Confab
Debunking some impressions that there is a dearth of renewable energy (RE) investors in Western Visayas, no less than the top executives of the clean and renewable energy sector trooped to Iloilo City today for the first-ever Renewable Energy Congress at the Grand Ballroom of the Amigo Terrace Hotel, Iloilo City.
Around six major investors will serve as resource persons in today's event and will share its commitment in mapping a clean energy future for Western Visayas.
The Trans-Asia Power Development Corp will present about wind power development while Solar Electric Co. will discuss prospects of solar energy.
On the other hand, Sunwest Water and Electric will talk about hydro power whereas the different aspects of biomass co-generation will be tackled by ASEA ONE, Global Green Power Corp. and the Central Azucarera de San Antonio.
The different technologies being promoted by these investors will be showcased in an exhibit at the hotel lobby.
Organized by the Regional Development Council of Region VI (RDC-VI) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA-VI), the event serves as a gathering of the country's top power industry players, renewable energy investors, local and provincial government officials and different stakeholders of Western Visayas.
The "energy family" composed of the National Power Corporation, National Transmission Corporation, PSALM, National Electrification Administration, distribution utilities, and electric cooperatives are expected to participate in the one-day event.
Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), will deliver an inspirational message while local government officials from the Province and City of Iloilo will also give their respective messages to the delegates.
The occasion has also the support of top government legislators who are advocates of renewable energy. Sen. Edgardo Angara and Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri is also present to discuss the salient features of the recently passed Renewable Energy Act of 2008 and updates along biofuels development in the country, respectively.
Moreover, Atty. Zenaida G. Cruz-Ducut, the newly-appointed chairperson of the Energy Regulatory Commission, is also present in order to listen on the different concerns and regulatory issues confronting stakeholders and investors in the region for consideration and future action of the ERC under her term.
In addition, environment groups like Greenpeace Southeast Asia and the World Wide Fund for Nature will also discuss trends and solutions to global warming and climate change, one of the most pressing issues being faced by the developing world today.
The RE Congress is co-organized by the Responsible Ilonggos for Sustainable Energy, League of Provinces-Visayas, and the University of the Philippines-Visayas.
