NSO readies for 2010 census
National Statistics Office (NSO) is stepping up preparations for the national event that will take a special place in the history of statistical milestones in the country, the 2010 Census of Population and Housing in the month of May. The 2010 CPH is a nationwide undertaking that involves collection, compilation, evaluation, analysis, publication, and dissemination of data on the population count in each barangay, city/municipality, province and region in the country. The census also includes the gathering of basic information on demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population and selected vital housing characteristics.
Around 1.5 million sample households in Western Visayas will be interviewed. Due to the multitude of interrelated sub-tasks that shall be accomplished for the smooth implementation of such vast nationwide undertaking, a number of dedicated census workers will be utilized to reinforce the regular personnel of NSO. There will be around 6,646 hired statistical researchers that will mobilized in Western Visayas wherein some of them are DepEd personnel.
In preparation, selected NSO personnel from different provincial offices attended the 2nd level training last March 22-27, 2010 at the NSO Regional Office, Iloilo City. The said attendees will serve as trainers during the 3rd level training for NSO provincial personnel and hired Census Area Supervisors (CAS) and their assistants at their respective provinces on April 19-24, 2010.
Fourth level training for field enumerators will then be conducted on April 25-May1, 2010. Enumeration will run from May 17-June 11, 2010.
