Construction supply store padlocked
ROXAS CITY – The Bureau of Internal Revenue has closed down a construction supply store on August 11 after the owner failed to comply with revenue laws, under the Bureau’s “Oplan Kandado” campaign.
BIR Regional Director Glen Geraldino and Revenue District Officer Gil Tabanda led the closure of Lanot General Merchandise for failure to settle its tax obligation amounting to P2.029 million based on records of BIR Revenue District Office No. 72.
“This store has not paid its tax obligation which is a big loss to our tax campaign,” Geraldino said.
Under the campaign, the BIR has closed about 20 business establishments in Panay and Boracay islands from January to August 11 this year.
Oplan Kandado is based on BIR Memorandum Order No. 3 issued by the Office of the BIR Commissioner in 2009.
Tabanda said that surveillance and appraisal activities, and issuances of the 48-hour notice and five-day Value-Added Tax compliance notice were conducted before the closure order was served.
“Closure will be temporary because the store can go back to business upon the settlement of its obligations,” Tabanda said.
The BIR officials were also assisted by BIR Regional Office Legal Division chief Yanson Chin and BIR Capiz Assistant Revenue District Officer Jose Rimi Lebrilla.
The “Oplan Kandado” activity was witnessed by Lanot village head Arsenio Barres.
In 2009, at least six Roxas City-based business establishments were also temporarily padlocked by BIR for non-compliance of revenue laws.*PIA
