Dengue cases continue to rise
ROXAS CITY – The number of dengue cases in Capiz continues to rise, the Provincial Health Office has reported.
As of August 7 this year, the number of dengue patients has reached 1,838 with 13 deaths.
Of the number, 606 are in Roxas City with five deaths, followed by Dao with 160; Pontevedra, 122; Panay, 117; and President Roxas, 102.
The highest number was also registered in July with 899, however, from August 1 to 7, the PHO has already recorded 342 cases.
Most of the dengue patients are female, and within the age bracket of one to 10 years old and 11to 20 years old, with 873 and 714 cases, respectively.
Earlier, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Capiz has put the entire province under the state of calamity due to dengue outbreak.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Roxas City has also declared Roxas City under the state of calamity after its dengue cases reached the epidemic level.
Gov. Victor Tanco has created and mobilized the Dengue Crisis Management Task Force to undertake the preventive, curative and monitoring activities to address the rising number of dengue cases.
Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino, meanwhile, has stepped up the city’s “Oplan Patay Lamok,” an inter-agency collaboration that reaches all the barangays and schools to heighten the preventive activities.
Media entities in Capiz, particularly dyOW-Bombo Radyo and dyVR-Radio Mo Nationwide, also took initiatives in conducting awareness activities in the barangays.*PIA
