‘Erring traffic aides should be fired’
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said there is a cleansing of the ranks of 289 traffic enforcers under the city Traffic Management and Engineering Unit.
Mabilog said ineffective traffic aides should be fired and replaced by better personnel who could do their jobs alone or with less supervision.
Some of those who were found wanting in performing their duties were already fired.
“I found out there were those who engaged in ‘kotong’ activities (extortion), reporting only during the 15th and the 30th of every month, while some were proven very lazy,” Mabilog said.
Moreover, the mayor said he has directed the Personnel Division to continue their training on customer satisfaction and monitoring of every employee’s performance.
Mabilog said a civil service eligibility is not a protection or guarantee that an employee cannot be relieved from his/her job.
“We must continue to do our work properly and serve the people well,” he told City Hall employees.*MGC
