Filing of CoCs for brgy., SK polls starts today
Candidates for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 25 are expected to troop to the Office of the Election Officer of their respective cities, districts or municipalities starting today, the first day of filing of Certificates of Candidacy (CoC).
The aspirants are asked to file a “sworn certificate of candidacy” in person or through a duly authorized representative at the office of the election officer during regular office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In Resolution no. 9029, the Comelec en banc, those who are qualified to run for the position of Punong Barangay must be a Filipino citizen, 18 years of age on the day of the elections, able to read and write Filipino or any local dialect, and are registered voters and residents of the Barangay where they intend to run for office for at least 1 year prior to election day.
For SK positions, he/she must be Filipino citizens, at least 15 years old but less than 18 years old on Election Day; able to read and write Filipino, English, or the local dialect; qualified members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan of the Barangay where they intend to run for office and residents thereof for at least one year immediately preceding the election; and must not have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.
The local Comelec office will accept CoCs until 12 midnight of Oct. 13, the last day of filing.
Some 42,025 barangay captains and SK chairmen as well as an estimated 294,175 barangay and SK council members are expected to be elected in the October 25 elections.
A registered voter will be voting one barangay chairman and seven barangay council members while youth voters will elect the one SK chief and seven youth council members.
The campaign period for the barangay and SK polls will start October 14 until October 23.*PNA
