Mabilog raises concern over abandoned babies
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has raised concern over the discovery of a fetus in the city last week and the abandonment of an infant at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral on Tuesday.
Mabilog said he wants a study of the two incidents.
He said he has instructed the City Welfare and Development Office to check for persons who will claim the baby boy left at the Jaro Cathedral’s comfort room last Tuesday.
“If there is none, they can bring him to me and I’ll take care of the baby,” he said.
Mabilog also called on parents to be responsible in taking care of their children, saying that even those who belong to cultural minorities and consider the streets as their homes have taken care of their offsprings.
The baby left at the Jaro cathedral was discovered by two female parishioners who heard the infant crying.
The comfort room attendant said she saw a teenage girl enter the CR minutes before the two women arrived.
The girl, who was about 16 or 17, was carrying a bag when she went inside and later left hurriedly.*
