Dengue deaths in city decrease
Dengue deaths in Iloilo City are now on the downtrend as residents are believed to become more aware of prevention measures against the dreaded disease.
“Residents are now aware that once they have fever, they immediately seek medical checkup and dengue screening. We have also implemented effective blood-letting activities that are of big help in saving the life of dengue patients,” Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
Reports from the City Health Office show that although dengue cases peaked in September at 778, there were only four deaths recorded last month.
In August, 14 deaths were reported out of 474 cases.
A total of 22 deaths out of 1,648 cases were monitored in Iloilo City from January to September.
The city government, with the support of private sector, initiated massive cleanup and mosquito control activities to stop the spread of dengue virus.*
