Give the President more time–DOT official
As President Benigno Simeon Aquino III reaches his first 100 days in office, the Department of Tourism 6 Regional Director Edwin Trompeta said he hopes the public would give the president more time to implement his policies.
Trompeta said the first 100 days is not enough for him to be able to deliver what he has envisioned for the country that the public should have to objectively wait.
“We should still give him enough time to implement the policies that the new government has adopted,” he said.
Trompeta said this, as the DOT Regional Office 6 is still waiting for the approval of the tourism infrastructure projects for Western Visayas to be given priority by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
He recalled that in compliance to the Memorandum Order issued by Undersecretary Vicente Romano III of the Tourism Planning and Promotion on July 9, 2010, he submitted a list of tourism infrastructure projects that would be given priority by the DPWH in their budget.
The tourism infrastructure projects when implemented will further boost the tourism destinations in Western Visayas for it would be made more accessible with better road infrastructures constructed.
Among the projects listed by the DOT Regional Office 6 then are the Boracay and Guimaras circumferential road including the lateral roads worth P150 million; expansion of Caticlan/Kalibo Airport worth P1 billion; completion of Roro Port facilities and terminals worth P500 million; provision of potable water to all resort areas worth P600 million; more coal fired/sustainable power plant worth P 1 billion; and completion of diversion road to Silay airport worth P100 million.
Trompeta said the listed projects, however, would be given support by the DPWH and the new administration by 2011.*PNA
