Experts blame deforestation, land conversion for flooding

Experts blame the worst flooding experienced in Western Visayas mainly to the continued depletion of trees and the conversion of agricultural lands to subdivisions and commercial areas.

Donations pour in but more needed

Donations continued to pour in for thousands of victims of typhoon "Frank" as the death toll continued to rise in the worst flooding to hit Western Visayas

Boxes of noodles, sardines, biscuits along with dry clothes and water were delivered to evacuation centers in churches and towns as Ilonggos continue to grapple with loss of lives, destruction of homes and other property and lack of electricity, water and communication.

City officials warn vs. water borne diseases

Acting Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the problems on the shortage of potable drinking water in the city must be addressed to avoid water borne diseases.

Peco, TNT conduct relief operations

Panay Electric Company (Peco) and The News Today have joined together in conducting relief operations for the victims of flood in the city.

No classes yet in 25 city schools

Some 33 elementary and secondary schools will resume its classes today after the assessment made by officials of the City Schools Division and the city government. Classes however in at least 25 schools mostly in Jaro district remain suspended.

Janiuay couple cries for help on 2 missing kids

JANUIAY, Iloilo -- A couple who survived the onslaught of Typhoon Frank in Janiuay, Iloilo is seeking the public's help to find two missing children aged 2 and 4.

Typhoon victims asked to report stolen things to police

Residents affected by flood who are victimized by looters were told to report to the police station so that there could be proper accounting of things stolen from them other than those things carried by flash floods.

Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias yesterday clarified that MV Lake Paoay is carrying coal when it capsized off the waters of Carles over the weekend. He thus allayed fears of another oil spill in Iloilo.

Zubiri scores weather bureau's inaccuracy in tracking 'Frank'

A senator who arrived here yesterday to give his rice donation to typhoon victims partly blamed the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Service Administration (Pagasa) for their failure to give accurate and proper warnings in areas devastated by typhoon Frank.
