Gumabong admits extortion racket at CEO; implicates top officials

Controversial City Hall employee Ricardo C. Gumabong finally surfaced and faced the media yesterday (Tuesday) but not without implicating top officials of the City Engineer's Office (CEO) in what he calls a widespread extortion racket inside the department.

Both Chief City Engineer Marito Amatorio and Engr. Marcelino Umahag strongly denied Ricardo Gumabong's allegations in an interview over Bombo Radyo.

Health officials sound off Dengue alarm

Dengue alert is up anew as cases continue to increase now throughout Western Visayas. Iloilo has eleven on record with Negros Occidental topping the list of the most-afflicted province with 142 cases. The figures and actual 'Dengue scenario' is feared to be higher with most cases left unreported.

Carles Mayor cries foul over damaged coral reef report

Carles Mayor Felipe Bernal is back in the news limelight anew.  This time amidst reported damage of the coral reef of the town's territorial waters and moves to have the area closed for fishing in at least five years.

A language center coming to town

Proficiency in English will get a big boost with the opening of the Talk International Language Center, Inc. (TALK ILC), an English school for foreign students especially Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese, right here in the heart of Iloilo City. Preparations are in full blast for the official opening June 1, 2006, Thursday, at 11:00 A.M.

P1.7-M schoolbuildings, other infra completed in solar town

A new schoolbuilding worth P889,516.00 and the repair of a similar schoolbuilding worth P846,871.00 were among the new infrastructure projects that have been implemented in the municipality of Tapaz, Capiz that has also become known as one of the areas in the country that have used solar energy as an alternative source of power.
